Leveraging settlement prices, back-adjustment, roll dates, and Open interest in ICE Futures U.S. and Matba Rofex futures data

May 15, 2024

Aiming to provide you with all the necessary tools and information for informed decision-making, we introduce improvements to futures data coming from two global sources: ICE Futures U.S. and Matba Rofex, an Argentinian futures and options trading provider. Futures will now come with additional features, enhancing your trading experience. Let’s delve into what has changed and how it can benefit you.

Back-adjustment of previous contracts

One of the key additions is the ability to back-adjust previous contracts in continuous futures. Discrepancies in prices across different contracts can complicate the analysis of price movements over time, but the back-adjustment feature helps users adjust previous contract prices, effectively accounting for rollover impact and eliminating the gap. To help you easily navigate contract switching, we’ve added labels with roll dates to the chart.

To activate this functionality, just click the B-ADJ button at the bottom of the chart or check the “Adjust for contracts changes” box in the chart settings. For further guidance, check out our Help center.

Settlement price

Another valuable update is the addition of the settlement price to our charts. This option allows you to choose between the settlement and last price as the closing value of the contracts displayed on the chart. The settlement price, determined by the exchange at the close of each trading day, offers a more transparent view of gains and losses associated with your positions. To switch between these options, simply click the SET button at the bottom of the chart or select the “Use settlement as close on daily interval” option in the chart settings.

Note that the settlement price is not visible during intraday intervals. For more details, please read this article.

Open interest

Another essential update will help you understand the market sentiment: we’ve added the Open interest indicator for the ICE Futures U.S. and Matba Rofex futures. Open interest not only indicates the number of derivative contracts that are still open and unsettled but also provides valuable insight into investor sentiment. To access this data, open the Indicators, Metrics & Strategies menu and select the Open interest indicator.

We hope these improvements will help you find new opportunities in the world’s futures markets. Don’t forget that our platform reliably connects to hundreds of data feeds, with direct access to 1,357,880 instruments from all over the world. All this makes TradingView your only needed point of entry for everything markets.
